The good description specifies: the trigger (new contact created), the source (any creation method), the actions (text, task, conditional email), the content (exact message), and the timing (immediate text, tomorrow follow-up). Claude Code can build this in one conversation because there is nothing to interpret or guess.
The skill to develop is specificity. Every time you catch yourself being vague, add detail. "Send a follow-up" becomes "send a follow-up email 3 days after the initial contact if they haven't responded, using a different subject line than the first email, and include a case study relevant to their industry." The more specific you are, the better the system works on the first try.
Step 3: Build with Claude Code
This is where the description becomes a working system. Open Claude Code, paste your description, and let the AI write the code. For most business automations, the first version works within 30-60 minutes.

Trying to automate everything at once. The urge to build a complete operating system in one weekend is strong. Resist it. Start with one system. Get it working perfectly. Then add the next. Each system builds on the foundation, and the compound effect creates the operating system over time. Trying to build everything simultaneously leads to 10 half-finished systems instead of 3 working ones.
Being too vague in descriptions. "Build me a CRM automation" is not a description. It is a category. What triggers it? What data does it need? What actions does it take? What happens when data is missing? The more specific your description, the fewer iterations you need. Spending an extra 10 minutes on the description saves an hour of back-and-forth during the build.
Skipping the test step. Every system feels done when it runs without errors. But running without errors is not the same as running correctly. Testing against real data reveals edge cases: leads with no email address, contacts with special characters in their name, time zone mismatches, missing fields. The 1-2 hours you spend testing prevents embarrassing failures in production (like sending a cold email that says "Hello [undefined]").
Over-engineering the first version. The first version of any system should be the simplest thing that works. You can add complexity later. A lead scorer with 3 factors that works reliably is more valuable than one with 15 factors that has bugs. Ship the simple version, validate that it helps, then iterate.
Not building the monitoring layer. Without monitoring, you are running on faith. You assume the email engine is sending emails. You assume the CRM sync is running. You assume the lead scorer is processing new batches. Faith is not a systems strategy. Build logging and alerting into every system from day one. It adds 15 minutes to the build time and saves you from discovering two weeks later that something silently failed on day three.

Priority 4: Outreach automation. Whether it is cold email, DM automation, or follow-up sequences -- any system that increases your outbound volume while maintaining quality is a revenue multiplier.
Priority 5: Content and SEO. Once the revenue engine is running, build the systems that drive inbound traffic: website optimization, content pipelines, social media automation, AI recommendation infrastructure.
Everything else -- voice AI, design workflows, competitor monitoring, analytics dashboards -- comes after these five are running. The temptation is to skip to the exciting stuff. Don't. The foundation systems are boring. They are also the reason Summit Wraps went from $52K to $300K.
